Detoxification is a bodily process and it is also a specific therapeutic activity.
Detoxification occurs naturally in your body which transforms health threatening toxic substances from our environment, diets, and lifestyle, into something harmless or something that can be excreted. Detoxification dysfunction occurs when detoxification systems (mainly the liver, but also colon, kidneys, gallbladder, lungs, skin, lymph and blood) become overloaded or imbalanced. This can seriously affect numerous body functions.
As a specific therapeutic activity, detoxification involves assessing and supporting detoxification processes to reduce the body's toxic burden. This can require expert advice since detoxification efficiency varies from person to person, and is highly influenced by diet, nutrition, environment, lifestyle and medications. Other interconnected biological processes may need consideration also, but greater equilibrium is achievable and vital to improve a persons vitality and long-term health prospects.
